NES Case Modifications

To create a NES game case we start with one of our SNES game cases.  A SNES game case has reinforced extra heavy angle brackets to hold the thick cartridge.  These tough angle brackets inside of the case need to be sheered off to make room for the longer NES cartridge.  Each case is worked on individually and is unique.

This is how the cases are modified:

We start with our SNES game case.  I take it down to the work room for alterations.

See the four reinforced bracket corners? Those get removed.

The case has to be protected to avoid damage.  The brackets are quite tough and hard to remove.

Sheered the first bracket cleanly off

All four brackets removed.

After the corner brackets are cut I take the cases inside to add the foam stripping.

(We have been experimenting and now don't apply as much stripping.)

Finally, here is a shot of a NES cartridge fitting snugly inside the case.   Game case cover is applied.
The modified case holds a NES cartridge securely and by design appears seamlessly on a shelf next SNES and N64 game cases.

We go through the trouble of modifying a SNES into a NES game case because most factory available cases do not have a sleeve for art work and appear so dissimilar to the N64 / SNES cases they look sad on the shelf.  It's worth the effort to have quality.
